Ron Clapham

This page was first published in January 2001

Ron was a member of the glee club which preceded the formation of our male voice choir. (See About the Choir). He was then naturally recruited as one of our founder members at the choir's inaugural meeting. Ron sings in the second tenor section and his constant presence is much appreciated there.

He left school at the age of fourteen and was employed as a paint sprayer in a pram factory, although most of the work was war related, before joining the Royal Navy in 1944. On leaving he joined the police service.

After completing his pensionable service with the police he then worked for a firm of solicitors, putting his experience to good use, until ill health forced him to cease work for a while. He had also taken a variety of 'odd jobs' to keep active.

Ron enjoys a game of bowls and plays with a local group in Maidstone. His main leisure activity though, outside the choir, is making wooden models and toys. As he and his wife Joan have seven grandchildren his hobby comes in very useful, especially at Christmas and birthday times!

He is always first to arrive at practice and is relied upon to unlock and set out the practice room seating, piano etc - a chore appreciated by other choir members Ron! Thanks for your commitment and constant support.
