Raymond Meech

When he joined the choir in 2005, it was Ray’s first experience of male voice singing, although he had sung in various mixed voice choirs and singing groups for much of his working life. He has also sung bass in the Paddock Wood Choral Society for some years.

His son Stephen, who was already a member of our choir, introduced him to us and they are now our unique father and son team in the bass section.

Ray is now fully retired after five years of semi-retirement from a career in office and factory systems design and management. He says he found singing, a guaranteed stress reliever from the pressures of work.

He was also interested to find evidence of earlier generation singing in his family, when he found that his grandfather’s marriage certificate gave ‘vocalist’ as his occupation. This was before radio had been invented and when music halls were a popular form of entertainment.

Apart from singing, Ray’s main hobbies are gardening, walking, chess and croquet.
