Gwilym Williams

This page was first published in November 2009

Gwilym was born in Mid Wales the heart of male voice choir singing and was greatly influenced by his father, who was a keen member of such a choir. His great grandfather was Benjamin Williams, a composer of many Welsh hymn tunes. He was taught piano and cello as a boy and was also tutored in singing.

Gwilym joined the British Transport Police in London in 1959 and spent the next thirty years in the London area. He worked under a total of five Chief Constables, two of whom had progressed from Kent Police. During the 1970s he was a member of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir, but a duty posting interfered with the time he could dedicate to the choir and he had to leave.

Following retirement in 1990 he moved to Spain with his wife, where they lived for the following eighteen years, eventually returning to the U.K. permanently in recent times. In 2001 Gwilym joined the Snowdown Male Voice Choir, but a move of home to Biddenden made travelling to rehearsals imposssible. In September 2009 it was therefore with delight, that Gwilym joined the first tenor section of Kent Police Male Voice Choir.

Welcome aboard Gwilym, we too are delighted to have you with us.
