David took over the baton from the choir's founder, the late Gerry Hughes, and over the years has forged a reputation throughout Kent for the attainment by the choir of a very high standard of choral singing.
He lives at Chestfield, Kent with his wife Jenny and has five grandchildren to keep him young! He enjoys playing golf and it is convenient that his home is very close to the local club.
David served in the Colonial Police Service in Northern Rhodesia after a musical education at Exeter Cathedral Choristers' School and Ardingly College, Sussex before joining Kent County Constabulary. He completed his police service and now spends much of his leisure time compiling musical arrangements and programmes for 'his' choir. His computer skills have improved beyond recognition!
Our musical director has an obvious deep love of music and his extensive knowledge of musical history often enhances his announcements of our pieces at concerts. His brother Alan is also a very fine musician and has helped the choir on several occasions, notably playing the organ at Rochester Cathedral and accompanying us on recordings.
David loves to sing as well as conduct and it is never a problem if we are hit suddenly by the absence of a soloist, as he fills in wherever required. On rare occasions he will include himself to perform a solo or duet when his fine tenor voice is appreciated.
We are indebted to you David (even with your rod of iron!). Thanks from all of us.
